The Coven of Tophania is named after the coven featured in the 2025 The Grimoire Society series. A coven of French witches who weave their magic in New Orleans. The coven is named in honor of the Herbalist Guilia Tophania from Rome. She sold poison to women in the 1600s looking to escape abusive domestic situations and honestly... we can't think of anything more witchy than that.

The Coven of Tophania was created after I found myself completely paralyzed by the lack of true small creators on websites like Etsy and found in many brick/mortar shops. It was beyond frustrating that whenever I wanted to shop small I was faced with dropshippers, 500% markup Aliexpress products, and I just never knew anymore if I was buying something of quality, or just another cheap Amazon item.

I knew there were amazing magical creators out there making ethical, well-made items from the heart, I just needed to find them. When you spend $50 on large corporate sites, that money is often hoarded wealth that will never stimulate the economy or your communities. But, when you spend $50 with small businesses that money helps people many times over. That business owner may spend it at their local farmer's market buying food, that farmer may then spend it at the coffee shop down the road buying bags of coffee for friends, that shop owner will then take that money and then pay their barista, who will use that money to buy their Thanksgiving turkey. We believe our dollar makes a massive impact when spent small.

Because of this, Coven of Tophania not only only purchases from small, handmade, ethically owned businesses, we do our best to buy from marginalized creators who will struggle to ever tap into that hoarded wealth. Not only that, but any profit we as a boutique makes goes into the fund of a private local New Orleans coven. Meaning every dollar spent at Coven of Tophania goes directly to support small creators as well as the development of real witches.
